Halloween is a fun time of year full of celebrations, treats, and maybe even a few tricks. Charleston is a place that combines its rich history with many of the Halloween-based events. Listed below are a few great Halloween events happening in the Charleston area this year.

The Haunted Jail Tour

The famous tour has been featured on many prominent television shows such as Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, and The Travel Channel. The Old City Jail is a place where over 10,000 gruesome deaths of criminals, prisoners of war, and slaves occurred. Tours of the Old City Jail are available four times a night (no daytime tours available). The tour is not recommended for children.

Family Fright Nights

If you are looking for a more family-friendly Halloween event, check out Family Fright Nights at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. They offer great activities for the whole family that are more fun than scary. Some of the activities include face painting, haunted train rides, pony rides, a costume contest and much more. Plus you get to view the beautiful gardens. Magnolia Gardens was voted America’s Most Beautiful Garden by Travel + Leisure Magazine. The event will be held from October 27th through the 28th from 6 pm to 10 pm.

Haunted Pub Crawl

The Original Pub & Brewery Tours of Charleston is hosting this great pub-hopping event. Participants will hear hair-raising ghost stories about the dark history of the area at each pub while enjoying the best that each pub has to offer. The tour begins at Tommy Condon’s, one of the best and most authentic Irish pubs in Charleston. They offer the pub tour daily from 4 pm to 7 pm through October 31st.

Crawl with the Creeps

If you like pub crawls, here is another spectacular Halloween pub crawl. This tour includes seven pubs: Mellow Mushroom, Oak Barrel Tavern, The Roost, Voodoo, Triangle, Pearlz, and Gene’s. Each pub will have the best costume contest and the final pub of the tour, Triangle, will have a best of the best costumes with a $500 prize to be won. The night will be finished off with a live DJ. The best part? It’s a free event to participate in and admission is free. The date is October 28th from 8 pm to 2 am.

Experience one or more of these fun Halloween festivals for yourself! If you are looking for a place to stay during one of the weekends, consider a local hotel or vacation rental. Hotel Bella Grace is a brand new hotel that recently opened in downtown and is near many of these festivals. Or, check out an Airbnb rental home if you have a large group coming. No matter where you stay, you are guaranteed a Halloween to remember this year in Charleston!
